Edward H. Griffith and George Cukor's 1932 film, "The Animal Kingdom," offers a poignant exploration of societal expectations and personal compromise. Ann Harding delivers a nuanced performance as Daisy, a woman caught between her genuine affection for Tom Collier (Leslie Howard) and the societal pressures that lead him to marry the more socially acceptable Cecelia, played with cool detachment by Myrna Loy. The film masterfully portrays Tom's ennui as he navigates a life of superficial obligations, sacrificing artistic integrity for commercial success.
