THE AFTERGLOW

Cinemavixion Review

Yolanda Torres and Joan Álvarez Durán's "The Afterglow" plunges viewers into a disquieting exploration of repressed trauma and obsessive desire. The film masterfully intertwines the narrative of Oliver, a writer haunted by a disturbing childhood sexual encounter, with that of Laura, a young woman struggling with memory loss after a suicide attempt. The chemistry between Paul Coster and Claudia Trujillo, as Oliver and Laura respectively, is palpable, driving the film's unsettling atmosphere. The direction skillfully builds tension, revealing dark secrets that threaten to consume the protagonists. While the external data notes a 6.6 IMDb rating, the film's true strength lies in its psychological depth and its unflinching gaze into the darker corners of the human psyche. "The Afterglow" is a compelling, albeit somber, cinematic experience that lingers long after the credits roll.
