THE ADVENTURES OF MARK TWAIN

Cinemavixion Review

Will Vinton's "The Adventures of Mark Twain" is a singular achievement in stop-motion animation, a fantastical journey that transcends its claymation origins. The film imaginatively transports the audience alongside Mark Twain himself, voiced with gravitas by James Whitmore, as he embarks on a celestial voyage to meet Halley's Comet. The narrative ingeniously weaves Twain's iconic characters—Tom Sawyer, Huck Finn, and Becky Thatcher—into this cosmic quest, allowing them to serve as the conscience of their creator. Their pleas for humanity's inherent worth resonate deeply, particularly when juxtaposed against Twain's disillusionment. This visually inventive and thematically rich film, boasting an impressive 80% on Rotten Tomatoes, offers a profound meditation on art, destiny, and the enduring complexities of the human spirit, making it a must-see for animation aficionados and literary enthusiasts alike.
