THE 2ND

Cinemavixion Review

In "The 2nd," Ryan Phillippe stars as Vic Davis, a secret-service agent whose ordinary mission to reconnect with his estranged son, Shawn (Jack Griffo), spirals into a dire confrontation. Set against the backdrop of a high-stakes terrorist operation on a college campus, the film pits Davis against a ruthless faction aiming to kidnap the daughter of a Supreme Court Justice, using her as leverage in a case concerning the Second Amendment. Director Brian Skiba crafts a tense thriller that relies heavily on Phillippe's established action persona. While the film's plot points might tread familiar ground within the action genre, the urgency of the situation and the father-son dynamic provide a compelling throughline. The supporting cast, including Casper Van Dien, adds to the ensemble's gravitas. "The 2nd" delivers a straightforward, action-packed narrative that fans of the genre will likely appreciate, offering a dose of suspense and tactical engagement.
