Michael Schultz's "Tarzan in Manhattan" offers a peculiar, yet surprisingly engaging, twist on the jungle legend. Transporting Tarzan from his natural habitat to the concrete sprawl of New York City, the film crafts a unique adventure. Joe Lara embodies a Tarzan who is both out of his element and fiercely protective, particularly in his quest to rescue the captive chimp Cheetah. The modernization of the narrative, introducing Jane as a resourceful cab driver, adds a contemporary edge. While the film might not boast the grandiosity of other Tarzan adaptations, its charm lies in this unexpected urban setting and the earnest performances, especially from Lara and Kim Crosby as Jane. It's a B-movie with a heart, exploring themes of animal welfare and belonging in an unfamiliar world, making for a memorable, albeit unconventional, viewing experience.
