TALES FROM SUSAN'S BARBER SHOP

Cinemavixion Review

In the quaint seaside town of Clacton-on-Sea, "Tales From Susan's Barber Shop" offers an intimate glimpse into the lives and perspectives of ordinary people grappling with the complexities of post-Brexit society. Through the lens of Susan, a unique female barber who learned her trade at 14, the documentary explores the multifaceted issues of migration, religious extremism, economic anxieties, and the UK's evolving relationship with the EU. Susan's barber shop serves as a microcosm of the community, a space where individuals from diverse viewpoints—both 'Remain' and 'Leave' voters—converge. The film delicately portrays Susan's own internal balancing act between warmth and social engagement on one side, and protectionism on the other, mirroring broader European societal struggles. It's a poignant, character-driven exploration of how global issues manifest at a local level, resonating with the hopes and uncertainties of a neighborhood navigating change.
