SWEDEN'S CROWN | EUROPEAN MONARCHIES

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary offers a compelling look into the enduring legacy of the Swedish monarchy, exploring its remarkable ability to adapt and thrive in the modern era. Titled 'Sweden's Crown | European Monarchies,' the film posits that the secret to the royal family's widespread popularity lies in their motto, 'For Sweden, with the times.' It delves into the progressive changes implemented, such as the 1980 law of succession establishing gender equality and the tradition of marrying individuals outside of aristocratic circles, exemplified by King Carl Gustaf's own marriage to Silvia Sommerlath. Directed by Julia Melchior, the documentary skillfully blends historical context with an analysis of the monarchy's strategic adaptation to societal shifts and its commitment to remaining close to the people. It’s a fascinating study in the evolution of tradition and the maintenance of relevance in the 21st century.
