SUBMARINE ALERT

Cinemavixion Review

Frank McDonald's "Submarine Alert" plunges viewers into the shadowy world of wartime espionage, a thrilling narrative set against the backdrop of World War II. The film masterfully weaves a tale of Nazi spies leveraging a stolen shortwave transmitter prototype to relay vital shipping intelligence to a Japanese submarine. The plot thickens as government agents enlist top radio engineers to identify and apprehend the culprits, leading our protagonist, Lew Deerhold, into a dangerous web of deceit. Richard Arlen delivers a compelling performance as the down-on-his-luck engineer caught in the crossfire, while Wendy Barrie and Nils Asther provide strong support. The film's tension builds effectively, showcasing the ingenuity and perilous stakes of intelligence operations during this tumultuous era. A solid entry in the wartime thriller genre, "Submarine Alert" offers a glimpse into the clandestine battles fought on the airwaves.
