STREET KIDS OF RUSSIA: SURVIVING POVERTY AFTER THE SOVIET COLLAPSE

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary offers a stark and unflinching look into the lives of Russia's street children, focusing on the poignant experiences of two young boys, Yuriy and Max. The narrative compellingly illustrates the devastating social consequences following the Soviet Union's collapse, highlighting the rise in homelessness and the harrowing realities these children face daily. The film does not shy away from the grim statistics of glue sniffing and HIV infection, nor the pervasive threat of abuse, as bravely articulated by Max. Despite the immense dangers and hardships, the boys' preference for street life over returning to their families underscores the deep-seated issues within their home environments. It's a powerful, albeit difficult, watch that sheds light on a critical, often overlooked, humanitarian crisis.
