STRATUM

Cinemavixion Review

Crash Buist's 2023 sci-fi thriller 'STRATUM' plunges viewers into a dystopian future where a powerful tech conglomerate wields absolute control from orbit. As a devastating virus ravages the planet, the ruthless People's Army escalates their power struggle, leaving ordinary citizens caught in the devastating crossfire. The narrative centers on a lone hacker who, armed with his formidable skills and advanced technology, allies with the conglomerate's rebellious daughter. Together, they venture into the complex world of virtual reality, aiming to become saviors for a beleaguered Earth. While the film's IMDb rating of 3.8/10 suggests a mixed reception, its ambitious premise and engagement with themes of corporate overreach, technological salvation, and virtual escapism offer a thought-provoking, if perhaps uneven, cinematic experience. The collaboration between Buist and co-writer Lauren Senechal on the script, alongside their on-screen presence, hints at a deeply personal vision for this futuristic cautionary tale.
