STRATEGY OF SILENCE

Cinemavixion Review

Vicent Peris's documentary, "The Strategy of Silence," is a searing indictment of governmental malfeasance and media complicity, chronicling the harrowing aftermath of the 2006 Valencia subway disaster. The film masterfully chronicles the nine-year odyssey of victims' families, spearheaded by the indomitable Beatriz Garrote, as they confront a wall of silence and deliberate obfuscation from authorities. What begins as a desperate plea for truth evolves into a powerful testament to the resilience of ordinary citizens against systemic corruption. The narrative unflinchingly exposes safety breaches, cover-ups, and a judiciary seemingly beholden to political interests. The documentary’s power lies not just in its exposé of injustice, but in its depiction of how persistent, unified activism can challenge even the most entrenched powers, culminating in a hard-won vindication and a significant political upheaval. It is a vital, albeit somber, watch that underscores the critical importance of transparency and accountability.
