STORIES FROM THE LANDING OF GALLIPOLI | THE MEMORIAL | TIMELINE

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary offers a poignant and deeply personal exploration of the Gallipoli landings through the lens of Private Thomas Anderson Whyte, a champion rower who was part of the first wave. Utilizing the War Memorial's rich collection of weapons, artifacts, and letters, the narrative skillfully retraces Whyte's journey. The film also captures the solemnity of an Anzac Day Dawn Service, providing a space for reflection on the enduring legacy of this pivotal event. Through interviews with prominent Australians, the documentary thoughtfully examines the complex interplay between historical fact and national myth, questioning whether this initial 'thunderclap' of war truly marked the genesis of a young nation. It's a compelling invitation to engage with history beyond the legend.
