SQUIDMAN

Cinemavixion Review

In 'Squidman,' director Charlie Cline presents a darkly comedic and surprisingly poignant look at a washed-up superhero. Andrew Roth stars as the titular Squidman, a former member of the prestigious Superhero Society now relegated to his sidekick's couch, drowning his sorrows in a local dive bar. The narrative gains traction when a reporter's interest in Squidman's past forces him to confront not only unresolved mysteries but also the daunting possibility of a future he thought had long passed. The film skillfully blends the absurdity of its premise with a relatable exploration of relevance, obsolescence, and the enduring search for purpose, even for those whose glory days are behind them. It's a character study that offers a fresh perspective on the superhero genre, focusing on the personal fallout after the capes come off.
