SPLINTER

Cinemavixion Review

Toby Wilkins' 'Splinter' offers a refreshingly claustrophobic take on the parasitic horror genre. The film masterfully builds tension within the confines of a desolate gas station, transforming an isolated setting into a crucible of survival. Shea Whigham and Jill Wagner deliver compelling performances as unlikely allies forced to confront a grotesque, shape-shifting threat. The creature design is inventive and genuinely unsettling, effectively blurring the lines between body horror and creature feature. While the plot adheres to familiar tropes, the execution is taut and efficient, showcasing a strong directorial hand. 'Splinter' stands out for its gritty atmosphere and commitment to visceral scares, making it a noteworthy entry for fans of intelligent, low-budget horror that prioritizes practical effects and sustained dread over jump scares.
