SPIRITED

Cinemavixion Review

Sean Anders’ "Spirited" offers a vibrant, song-and-dance-infused reimagining of Charles Dickens's "A Christmas Carol," anchored by the charismatic comedic duo of Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds. Ferrell embodies the perpetually grumpy Clint Briggs, a modern-day Scrooge, while Reynolds plays the Ghost of Christmas Present, tasked with reforming Briggs but finding his own perspective challenged along the way. The film successfully blends traditional holiday sentiment with contemporary humor, featuring impressive musical numbers and a surprisingly heartfelt narrative arc. While the film garnered nominations and a respectable 6.6/10 on IMDb and 70% on Rotten Tomatoes, its reception was somewhat divided, with Metacritic scoring it 55/100. Despite this, "Spirited" stands out as a bold, entertaining musical adaptation that, while perhaps not reaching the classic status of its source material, offers a fresh and engaging take on a timeless story, making it a worthy watch for fans of musicals and holiday fare alike.
