SOUTHWARD HO!

Cinemavixion Review

Joseph Kane's "Southward Ho!" plunges viewers into the turbulent post-Civil War South, offering a classic Western narrative steeped in themes of justice and redemption. The film artfully portrays the challenges faced by returning Confederate soldiers, Roy (Roy Rogers) and Gabby (George 'Gabby' Hayes), as they navigate a Texas landscape rife with corruption. Rogers delivers a charismatic performance as the lawman tasked with uncovering the treachery of a ruthless Union Captain, while Hayes provides his signature blend of wit and wisdom. The plot, centered on the recovery of confiscated firearms, builds a compelling case for vigilantism against oppressive authority. With its roots firmly planted in the Western tradition and a runtime that efficiently tells its story, "Southward Ho!" stands as a solid entry in the genre, showcasing the enduring appeal of tales of heroism in the face of adversity.
