SLEEPING WITH THE FISHES

Cinemavixion Review

Nicole Gomez Fisher's "Sleeping with the Fishes" is a vibrant cinematic tapestry weaving together the rich threads of a Latino and Jewish heritage in Brooklyn. The film masterfully chronicles the journey of Alexis Rodriguez Fish, portrayed with compelling depth, as she navigates the tumultuous waters of self-discovery following personal setbacks. The narrative, bolstered by a stellar cast including Gina Rodriguez, Ana Ortiz, and Steven Strait, offers a poignant yet humorous exploration of family dynamics, cultural identity, and resilience. With its "ay dios mio" and "oy vey moments," the film authentically captures the unique blend of traditions and the often-hilarious complexities that arise in a multicultural household. The colorful characters and sharp one-liners are a testament to Fisher's keen eye for relatable, comedic storytelling. While the external data notes a reception of 2 wins and 5 nominations, "Sleeping with the Fishes" stands out as a heartfelt and entertaining piece that celebrates the beauty found in imperfection and the enduring strength of family bonds.
