SKIPPED PARTS

Cinemavixion Review

Tamra Davis's 'Skipped Parts' offers a poignant and often humorous exploration of adolescence and familial dysfunction set against the backdrop of a small Wyoming town in 1963. Jennifer Jason Leigh delivers a compelling performance as a wayward mother, whose own arrested development mirrors the coming-of-age struggles of her thoughtful son, Sam. The film navigates the awkwardness of first love and sexual discovery with a tender, albeit sometimes uncomfortable, honesty. While the plot threads involving Hank Elkrunner and the domineering grandfather add layers, the heart of the film lies in Sam's burgeoning relationship with Maurey and their shared quest for knowledge. It's a story that captures the universal anxieties of growing up and the often-bumpy road to self-understanding, anchored by strong performances and a narrative that doesn't shy away from the complexities of its characters.
