SISTERS OF THE WILDERNESS

Cinemavixion Review

Karin Slater's "Sisters of the Wilderness" is a poignant documentary that intertwines a journey of personal growth with a vital environmental message. The film follows five young Zulu women as they embark on a backpacking expedition into South Africa's iMfolozi game reserve. This immersive experience becomes a powerful catalyst for their self-discovery, fostering a deep connection with nature and with each other. As they navigate the rugged terrain, they confront the harsh realities facing this ancient wilderness, particularly the encroaching threat of an open-cast coal mine and the devastating impact of rhino poaching. The narrative skillfully draws parallels between the exploitation of the natural world and our own well-being, reminding viewers of the intrinsic link between humanity and nature. While the film may not boast extensive accolades, its authentic portrayal and the profound personal journeys of its subjects offer a compelling and timely call to action for conservation and mindful living.
