SHUNNED BY THEIR AMISH COMMUNITY

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary offers a poignant look into the lives of Ephraim and Amanda, an Amish couple ostracized for seeking a faith that diverges from their community's rigid doctrines. The film compellingly charts their challenging transition into the modern world, a journey fraught with the difficulties of adapting to new technologies and customs, all while caring for a child with significant health needs. Additionally, the narrative expands to include Jesse and Elsie, another couple facing the profound emotional and familial repercussions of choosing to leave their traditional life in pursuit of personal freedom and spiritual conviction. The documentary masterfully captures the internal and external conflicts inherent in such life-altering decisions, providing a sensitive portrayal of resilience and the search for belonging.
