SHORTWAVE

Cinemavixion Review

Ryan Gregory Phillips's 'Shortwave' plunges into the profound depths of grief and the desperate pursuit of connection. The film masterfully intertwines the personal tragedy of the Harris family with a cosmic mystery, as a cryptic radio signal becomes the catalyst for both scientific breakthrough and psychological unraveling. Juanita Ringeling delivers a compelling performance as Isabel, whose descent into vivid hallucinations blurs the lines between memory, reality, and a potentially alien influence. The narrative skillfully builds suspense, transforming a story of loss into a chilling exploration of the unknown. While the film grapples with complex themes, its strength lies in its atmospheric tension and its poignant portrayal of a family seeking solace in the face of unfathomable forces. 'Shortwave' is a thought-provoking entry into the science fiction thriller genre, rewarding patient viewers with its unique blend of intimate drama and cosmic dread.
