SHINER

Cinemavixion Review

In "Shiner," director Seo Mutarevic crafts a compelling narrative centered on Matt's ambitious journey into the brutal, yet captivating, world of underground MMA fighting. The film masterfully weaves a tale of aspiration and unexpected romance, as Matt, guided by the weathered wisdom of Happy McBride (portrayed with depth by Kevin Bernhardt, who also penned the script), navigates the treacherous path to becoming a champion. Seya Hug and Shannon Staller deliver strong performances, anchoring the emotional core of the story. While Matt climbs the ranks in the fighting arena, the true test of his mettle arrives in the form of his feelings for Nikki, Happy's daughter, introducing a poignant layer of personal conflict. "Shiner" is a gritty exploration of dreams, sacrifice, and the unpredictable nature of love, offering a raw look at the human spirit's resilience both inside and outside the ring.
