SEPTIMIUS SEVERUS: THE ROMAN EMPEROR WHO INVADED SCOTLAND | BRITAIN'S AFRICAN EMPEROR | TIMELINE

Cinemavixion Review

This documentary delves into the ambitious military campaign of Roman Emperor Septimius Severus into Scotland around 208 AD. It highlights the significant scale of the invasion force, comprising 40,000 soldiers, underscoring Rome's immense power and the persistent resistance from the northern tribes of Britain. The narrative frames Severus as a pivotal, albeit less commonly discussed, figure in Roman history, particularly in the context of imperial expansion beyond established borders. The film effectively contrasts the settled Roman province with the untamed territories to the north, setting the stage for a compelling account of conflict and imperial ambition on the fringes of the known world.
