SENSE AND SENSIBILITY

Cinemavixion Review

Jane Austen's beloved novel "Sense and Sensibility" finds a unique life on stage in this filmed production from Chicago Shakespeare Theater. Directed by Barbara Gaines, this musical adaptation, penned by Paul Gordon, delves into the nuanced relationships and societal constraints faced by the Dashwood sisters in the 19th century. While the external data points to a celebrated 1995 film adaptation, this stage version offers a different, intimate perspective. The performances, particularly from Emily Berman, Matthew Keffer, and Sean Allan Krill, bring a fresh vitality to the classic narrative. It's a commendable effort to translate Austen's keen observations on love, fortune, and propriety into a musical format, inviting audiences to experience this enduring story anew through the lens of live theatrical performance.
