SEASON OF THE WITCH

Cinemavixion Review

Peter Goddard's "Season of the Witch" delves into the unsettling atmosphere of a secluded village, exploring themes of grief, delusion, and communal hysteria. The narrative centers on Mary Blackwell and her children as they navigate the insular world of Maiden Hollow, where a local priest's descent into madness blurs the lines between reality and hallucination. Beth Kingston delivers a compelling performance as Mary, anchoring the film amidst its psychological complexities. The film masterfully builds a sense of unease, drawing viewers into the villagers' escalating paranoia and the tragic consequences of their actions. While the ambiguity surrounding Alice's connection to the priest's past adds a layer of intrigue, it is the chilling depiction of how fear and misunderstanding can lead to devastating outcomes that resonates most profoundly. "Season of the Witch" is a thought-provoking thriller that lingers long after the credits roll.
