SEASON OF THE WITCH

Cinemavixion Review

Peter Goddard's 'Season of the Witch' (2009) offers a chilling descent into rural paranoia and psychological distress. Set in an isolated village, the film masterfully crafts an atmosphere thick with suspicion and unspoken grief, centering on a priest whose fractured psyche becomes the catalyst for tragedy. Beth Kingston delivers a compelling performance as a mother returning to settle affairs, only to find herself caught in a web of delusion and fear. The narrative skillfully weaves folk horror elements with a profound exploration of madness, loss, and the devastating consequences of collective hysteria. Goddard's direction ensures a slow-burn tension, drawing the audience into the unsettling dynamics of the community and the priest's deteriorating mental state. It's a haunting, thought-provoking thriller that lingers long after the credits roll, probing the dark corners of the human mind.
