SCREWED

Cinemavixion Review

"Screwed" plunges viewers into the brutal realities of the British penal system, offering a raw, semi-biographical look at life behind bars through the eyes of former prison guard Ronnie Thompson. Directed by Reg Traviss and starring a compelling James D'Arcy as ex-soldier Sam Norwood, the film unflinchingly portrays the descent into the corrupting underworld of prison culture. D'Arcy's performance anchors the narrative, ably supported by a cast including Noel Clarke and Frank Harper, who bring authenticity to their roles. While the film grapples with themes of institutional decay and moral compromise, its gritty realism and unflinching depiction of the daily struggles faced by both inmates and officers make it a potent, albeit bleak, cinematic experience. The film's critical reception, with a 36% on Rotten Tomatoes, suggests a divisive but impactful portrayal of a harsh environment.
