RUTHLESS

Cinemavixion Review

Edgar G. Ulmer's "Ruthless" is a compelling descent into the heart of unchecked ambition. Zachary Scott delivers a chilling performance as Horace Vendig, a man whose rags-to-riches story is built on a foundation of manipulation and moral compromise. The film masterfully chronicles Vendig's ascent, portraying his relentless drive with a stark, noir-infused aesthetic that keeps the audience riveted. Despite his philanthropic facade, Vendig's past inevitably catches up, leading to a dramatic confrontation that exposes the hollowness of his success. With a strong supporting cast, including Sydney Greenstreet, and a tight narrative, "Ruthless" remains a potent exploration of the corrupting influence of power and the enduring consequences of betrayal. Its critical acclaim, evidenced by a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score, solidifies its place as a significant piece of classic cinema.
