ROYAL WEDDING

Cinemavixion Review

Stanley Donen's "Royal Wedding" is a delightful confection, a light musical that shines with the effervescent charm of Fred Astaire. Set against the backdrop of a royal event in London, the narrative follows a brother-sister dance duo whose personal romantic entanglements provide ample opportunity for charming musical numbers. The film expertly blends Astaire's unparalleled grace, showcased in gravity-defying sequences within his hotel room, with Jane Powell's spirited performance. The chemistry between the leads is palpable, and the script, while simple, offers enough romantic intrigue and comedic moments to keep the audience engaged. Bolstered by critical acclaim, including a strong showing on Rotten Tomatoes, and a nomination for an Academy Award, "Royal Wedding" remains a testament to the golden age of Hollywood musicals, a joyous celebration of dance and romance that still captivates today.
