ROUND-UP TIME IN TEXAS

Cinemavixion Review

Joseph Kane's "Round-Up Time in Texas" offers a unique blend of Western charm and unexpected adventure, transporting audiences far from the dusty trails of the American West to the dense jungles of South Africa. Gene Autry, in his familiar role, alongside the ever-reliable Smiley Burnette, embarks on a diamond-hunting expedition that quickly devolves into a thrilling tale of capture and rescue. The film cleverly juxtaposes the expected musical interludes and cowboy camaraderie with a more exotic, almost pulp-fiction narrative. Autry’s genuine charisma anchors the story, while Burnette provides his signature comedic relief. Although the IMDb rating suggests a mixed reception, the sheer audacity of the plot—featuring Gene Autry confronting a jungle tribe—makes it a curious and entertaining watch. It stands as a testament to the era's willingness to explore diverse settings within the Western genre, offering a surprising detour for fans of Autry's work.
