RONNIE AND JULIE

Cinemavixion Review

This contemporary retelling of Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" offers a unique fusion of youthful romance and the cutthroat world of political maneuvering. Set against the backdrop of competitive ice skating and hockey rivalries, the film explores the timeless themes of love battling against societal divides. Joshua Jackson and Margot Finley deliver compelling performances as the titular ill-fated lovers, navigating the complexities of their families' feud and their own burgeoning affections. The narrative cleverly weaves in elements of political intrigue, adding an unexpected layer to the classic tragedy. While the original play's intensity is translated to a modern setting, the core emotional resonance remains, making it a compelling watch for those who appreciate familiar stories reimagined with a fresh perspective.
