ROBERT THE DOLL

Cinemavixion Review

Andrew Jones' "Robert the Doll" delves into the unsettling territory of haunted objects, drawing inspiration from purportedly real-life events. The narrative centers on a family whose newfound vintage doll, Robert, becomes the focal point of increasingly terrifying supernatural phenomena. The film attempts to build suspense through atmospheric dread and the psychological impact of unexplained occurrences on a young boy and his family. While the premise promises a descent into psychological horror, the execution relies heavily on conventional scares. The performances, particularly from the young actor portraying the son, navigate the escalating tension with a degree of sincerity. Jones crafts moments of unease, but the film's effectiveness hinges on its ability to sustain a consistent level of dread, a challenge it navigates with varying degrees of success, ultimately offering a serviceable entry into the 'cursed object' subgenre.
