ROBERT REDFORD'S THE WEST: HOW THE GREAT SIOUX WAR BEGAN

Cinemavixion Review

Robert Redford's "The West: How The Great Sioux War Began" delves into a pivotal and fraught period of American history. The documentary illuminates the escalating tensions surrounding Ulysses S. Grant's administration, a time marred by economic depression and a desperate U.S. government's pursuit of gold. The narrative masterfully centers on the Black Hills of South Dakota, a region of immense spiritual significance to the Sioux people, and the inevitable conflict that arose from the American desire to exploit its riches. Executive produced by Redford, this installment of "The West" offers a compelling examination of the cultural clashes and political machinations that defined the era. It highlights the complex interplay between cowboys, Native Americans, outlaws, and lawmen, painting a vivid picture of a land in dramatic transition and the seeds of a brutal war.
