RITE OF THE SHAMAN

Cinemavixion Review

Alicia Oberle Farmer's "Rite of the Shaman" is a poignant drama that delves into the complex emotional landscape of Kai, a mute high school student grappling with the terminal illness of his mother. The film skillfully intertwines Kai's personal grief and burgeoning depression with the lingering wisdom of his shaman grandfather and his passion for botany. While navigating the tribulations of adolescence and the weighty responsibility of caregiving, Kai's journey becomes a profound exploration of confronting one's inner darkness to find a path toward healing and self-discovery. The narrative thoughtfully examines the ripple effect of our actions, even the seemingly insignificant ones, on the lives of others. Despite a modest box office performance of $16,210 and a 4.2/10 rating on IMDb, the film garnered significant critical attention with 27 wins and 6 nominations, underscoring its impact within the independent film circuit. "Rite of the Shaman" offers a sensitive portrayal of resilience, offering a beacon of hope in the face of adversity.
