RISING FREE

Cinemavixion Review

In "Rising Free," Christian Johannesson crafts a poignant narrative set against the backdrop of late nineteenth-century America. The film delves into the harrowing experiences of a young woman navigating a society steeped in racial prejudice, where the threat of being sold looms large. Samantha Droke delivers a compelling performance as the protagonist, her journey from despair to hope forming the emotional core of the story. The discovery of a gracious family offers a glimmer of solace, and through her own transformation, the character learns the profound lessons of forgiveness and mercy. While the film grapples with heavy themes, its exploration of resilience and the enduring power of human kindness makes it a thought-provoking watch. The visual storytelling effectively captures the era, immersing the audience in the protagonist's struggle and eventual triumph.
