RINGO AND GRINGO AGAINST ALL

Cinemavixion Review

Bruno Corbucci's "Ringo and Gringo Against All" offers a peculiar and amusing take on the spaghetti western genre, blending its iconic tropes with a hearty dose of absurdist comedy. Set in the desolate Southwestern desert, the film centers on the enduring, albeit anachronistic, military service of Sgt. Gringo (Lando Buzzanca) and Pvt. Ringo (Raimondo Vianello). These two soldiers, left behind at Fort Jackson, continue their duties long after the Civil War has concluded, a premise ripe for comedic exploitation. Buzzanca and Vianello share a palpable chemistry, their escalating frustration and camaraderie forming the core of the narrative. The film cleverly uses the backdrop of a defunct war to explore themes of obsolescence and the human need for purpose, all while delivering expected western action and comedic set pieces. It’s a unique cinematic offering that, despite its B-movie origins, provides a surprisingly insightful, and often hilarious, commentary on duty and delusion.
