RIDING 79

Cinemavixion Review

Karola Hawk's "Riding 79" is a poignant coming-of-age drama that transports viewers to the sun-drenched shores of Puerto Rico in the summer of 1979. The film centers on Miguel, a young protagonist left in the care of his grandparents, who finds himself navigating the complexities of adolescence amidst the allure of surfing, fast cars, and burgeoning romance. While Miguel initially seeks a distant dream, his journey becomes one of unexpected self-discovery and the realization of genuine love, intertwined with the responsibilities of caring for his younger sister. Lorenzo James Henrie delivers a compelling performance as Miguel, ably supported by Madalyn Horcher and Tristan Jarred. The narrative skillfully balances youthful exuberance with the tender exploration of family bonds and the search for belonging. "Riding 79" is a warm and evocative tale that captures the spirit of a bygone era with heartfelt authenticity.
