REVOLUTION AND ROMANCE: MUSICAL MASTERS OF THE 19TH CENTURY

Cinemavixion Review

Suzy Klein's "Revolution and Romance: Musical Masters of the 19th Century" offers a compelling journey through a transformative era in music. The series masterfully intertwines the socio-political landscape of 19th-century Europe with its evolving soundscape. Klein elucidates how the seismic shifts following the French Revolution and the rise of the industrial age created fertile ground for artistic innovation. She expertly charts the decline of aristocratic patronage and the ascendance of a burgeoning middle class, which empowered composers and performers to explore new creative frontiers. Featuring luminaries such as Beethoven, Schubert, Liszt, Chopin, and Berlioz, the series highlights how these musical giants not only responded to their times but also shaped the very industry that supported them, achieving both critical acclaim and popular success.
