Victor Halperin's 'Revolt of the Zombies' plunges viewers into a chilling post-WWI Cambodia, where the insidious Count Mazovia wields the dark secret of zombification to forge a legion of enslaved laborers. The narrative follows an expedition dispatched to the ancient ruins of Angkor Wat, tasked with dismantling Mazovia's unholy operation. However, the expedition is complicated by internal agendas, particularly that of Armand, portrayed by Dean Jagger, who finds himself entangled in a web of love and deceit. The film, despite its modest runtime and dated special effects, taps into primal fears of control and exploitation, offering a fascinating glimpse into early cinematic attempts at horror and adventure.
