David Cherkasskiy's "Return To The Treasure Island" plunges viewers into a swashbuckling adventure that, despite its inherent charm, feels somewhat unpolished. The narrative follows young Jim Hawkins as he unearths a treasure map, setting sail on the Hispaniola with a motley crew. The initial setup, involving the siege of the Benbow Inn and the discovery of the map, promises grand escapades. However, the film struggles to fully capitalize on its potential. The introduction of Long John Silver and the subsequent mutiny offer moments of tension, but the execution lacks the visceral impact expected from a tale of pirates and buried riches. While the performances, particularly from the ensemble cast, strive to bring the characters to life, they are often hampered by pacing issues and a script that could benefit from greater depth.
