RENEGADE GIRL

Cinemavixion Review

William Berke's "Renegade Girl" plunges viewers into the tumultuous Missouri borderlands during the Civil War, a state rife with divided loyalties. Ann Savage delivers a compelling performance as Jean Selby, a young woman from a staunchly Confederate family who finds herself entangled in espionage. The narrative takes a sharp turn when Captain Fred Raymond, portrayed by Alan Curtis, discovers Jean's clandestine activities, only to develop a passionate romance with her. This forbidden love story masterfully explores the profound personal cost of war, where personal affections clash with patriotic duties and endanger lives. While the film may not boast extensive accolades, its intimate portrayal of wartime romance and moral ambiguity offers a poignant glimpse into a turbulent historical period, making it a noteworthy, albeit lesser-known, cinematic exploration of the Civil War's impact on individual lives.
