REFERENCES

Cinemavixion Review

In "References," director Michael Jason Allen crafts a charming romantic comedy that delves into the complexities of trust and reputation. The film centers on a woman seeking a new beginning who finds herself entangled with a local man known for his past dalliances. What begins as a simple quest for love evolves into a delightful detective story as she endeavors to verify his history. Allen, who also stars in the film, imbues the narrative with a genuine warmth, supported by a capable cast including Joanna Ke and Laura Durant. The plot, while leaning into familiar romantic tropes, offers a refreshing twist by making the protagonist an active investigator of her suitor's past. "References" is a sweet and engaging exploration of second chances and the pursuit of truth in relationships, making for a pleasant viewing experience.
