RAZZENNEST

Cinemavixion Review

Johannes Grenzfurthner's "Razzennest" (2022) is a meta-cinematic puzzle box that challenges the viewer's perception of reality and artistic creation. The film ostensibly follows a South African filmmaker and an indie critic as they convene to record an audio commentary for a documentary, but this premise quickly unravels into an exploration of arthouse horror and biting satire. With a runtime of 81 minutes, "Razzennest" deftly navigates its complex themes, featuring strong performances from Sophie Kathleen Kozeluh, Michael Smulik, and Anne Weiner. The film has garnered critical attention, including 5 wins and 4 nominations, and boasts an impressive 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, suggesting it resonates deeply with those who appreciate its unconventional approach. While the IMDb rating stands at 5.0/10, the critical acclaim points to a film that is divisive yet rewarding for audiences seeking a thought-provoking and genre-bending cinematic experience.
