In the desolate landscape of 1976's "Rattlers," director John McCauley crafts a tense creature feature that taps into primal fears. The film follows herpetologist Dr. Tom Parkinson, portrayed with earnest conviction by Sam Chew Jr., as he investigates a series of mysterious deaths in a desert community. What begins as a scientific inquiry quickly escalates into a desperate fight for survival as swarms of unusually aggressive rattlesnakes descend upon the unsuspecting town. Elisabeth Chauvet provides a capable counterpoint as photographer Ann Bradley, assisting Parkinson in unraveling the deadly secret behind the serpentine onslaught. While perhaps not reaching the heights of cinematic masterpieces, "Rattlers" delivers a compelling B-movie experience, elevated by its atmospheric setting and the chilling premise of nature turned malevolent. It's a solid entry for fans of classic animal attack thrillers.
