RACCOONS - THE NEW EUROPEANS

Cinemavixion Review

Heiko De Groot's documentary, "Raccoons - The New Europeans," offers a compelling look into the fascinating and often misunderstood proliferation of raccoons across the continent. Originally introduced to Germany for the fur trade, these adaptable creatures have since established a significant presence, raising questions about their ecological impact. The film thoughtfully explores this transition, moving from the historical context of their introduction to contemporary biological studies. De Groot navigates the subject with a balanced perspective, presenting research that largely offers comforting conclusions regarding the raccoons' effect on native species. This documentary serves as an insightful examination of human influence on ecosystems and the unexpected consequences that can arise, encouraging viewers to reconsider their perceptions of this ubiquitous urban dweller.
