Cinemavixion Review

This two-part documentary series, "Queen of Denmark - Part 2," offers a unique and insightful look into the reign of H.M. Queen Margrethe II, coinciding with her 50th anniversary as regent in January 2022. Directed by Ulrik Skotte, the film delves into the dramatic societal and political transformations Europe has undergone since 1972, from technological advancements like the internet to global events such as terrorism, religious tensions, and the pandemic. The documentary aims to present an unpredictable portrait of the Queen by featuring interviews with a diverse group of influential figures. These include members of other royal families, particularly from the Nordic countries (Sweden and Norway, highlighting their strong familial and diplomatic ties), current and former heads of state, and significant cultural personalities who have met or worked with Her Majesty. The series thoughtfully balances historical context, enriched by archival footage, with personal reflections from interviewees on their impressions of the Queen. It also explores the social dimension, examining perceptions of Danish society and the public's relationship with the monarchy. Supported by the Danish Royal Family and the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this project promises a comprehensive reflection on the remarkable achievement of a long-standing monarchy amidst profound global change.
