PRISON GIRLS S2 E2

Cinemavixion Review

This episode of "Prison Girls" delves into the harsh realities of life within California's Maple Street Correctional Centre, focusing on the volatile environment of the segregation pod "Ocean." The narrative weaves together multiple storylines: a sudden, violent incident involving an officer that triggers an investigation; the clandestine romantic relationship between inmates Lo and Kayla, maintained through secret messages; and the internal struggles of Olga, a pregnant inmate grappling with her religious beliefs and uncertain future outside of incarceration. The series aims for an intimate portrayal of female inmates, highlighting their diverse backgrounds—mothers, daughters, grandmothers—contrasted with their criminal identities as gang members, murderers, and smugglers. The episode effectively captures the intense, often explosive, dynamics that arise from housing such a volatile population together twenty-four-seven, offering a raw glimpse into a world where 'orange is the new black.'
