PIRAHNA

Cinemavixion Review

Joe Dante's "Pirahna" from 1978 plunges viewers into a sun-drenched summer resort that quickly becomes a blood-soaked nightmare. The premise is simple yet terrifying: a school of prehistoric, flesh-eating piranhas escapes into the local waterways, turning a carefree vacation into a desperate fight for survival. Dante, known for his unique blend of horror and dark humor, crafts a creature feature that is both suspenseful and surprisingly witty. The film boasts a strong ensemble cast, including Bradford Dillman and Heather Menzies-Urich, who navigate the escalating chaos with a mix of terror and determination. While the special effects may show their age, the film's genuine sense of dread and its clever subversion of typical horror tropes make it a memorable and entertaining watch. "Pirahna" stands as a classic of the genre, a testament to effective B-movie filmmaking.
