PIP FROM PITTSBURG

Cinemavixion Review

This charming 1931 short, "Pip from Pittsburg," offers a delightful twist on the familiar blind date trope. Featuring the ever-reliable Charley Chase and the luminous Thelma Todd, the film hinges on Chase's comedic desperation to sabotage his own romantic prospects. His elaborate, garlic-infused efforts to appear undesirable are met with unexpected charm by Todd, whose presence elevates the simple premise. Directed by James Parrott, this short is a testament to the era's knack for crafting efficient, gag-driven humor. While perhaps not a groundbreaking cinematic achievement, its clever execution and the chemistry between its leads make it a worthwhile watch for fans of classic comedy and a pleasant discovery for new audiences.
