PETUNIA

Cinemavixion Review

Ash Christian's "Petunia" is a darkly comedic and poignant exploration of a New York family whose emotional growth has been as stunted as their familial bonds are suffocatingly tight. The film delves into the complexities of love, self-acceptance, and the often-unpredictable nature of relationships, as brothers Charlie, Adrian, and Michael navigate their psychoanalyst parents' unorthodox teachings and their own personal crises. With a stellar cast including Tobias Segal, Christine Lahti, and Thora Birch, "Petunia" weaves a narrative that is both off-beat and deeply resonant. Despite a mixed reception, with a 20% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the film offers a unique perspective on dysfunction and the arduous journey toward healing and self-discovery. It's a thought-provoking piece that encourages viewers to examine the intricate dynamics within their own families.
